T
he Pensacola Little Theatre and Stamped hosted the 7th
annual Stamped: Pensacola LGBTQ Film Fest VIP Party
on August 22. The party featured a cocktail meet and
greet hour where guests had an opportunity to network,
discuss the upcoming fi lms, and were treated to a special viewing of
three fi lms, one of which was only shown to VIP guests. Over one
hundred fi lms were submitted for consideration, while only 20 total
were selected to be shown during the festival. The festival also ordered
rainbow pins in representation of a fi lm shown on opening night
called “The Pin.” The Pensacola LGBTQ Film Festival highlights
the artistic contributions both nationally and internationally
of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQ) fi lms and
fi lmmakers. The unique ability of fi lm to transcend stereotypes and
relate to the viewer opens the door to a dialogue about the LGBTQ
experience, building a stronger and more open Pensacola.
The Festival also provides access to crucial organizations who
provide services uniquely vital to the LGBTQ community, including
Oasis Florida, which is an HIV prevention and care organization
dedicated to helping those who are affected by HIV/AIDS and
preventing the spread through education and awareness; Sunday’s
Child, which is a non-profi t organization that strives to create a
culture and community of acceptance for lesbian, gay, bisexual,
and transgender (LGBT) individuals in the Pensacola Bay Area
through giving; and Strive Pensacola, which serves the transgender
community in Escambia County and surrounding areas working
to provide housing, fi nancial support, and transportation for the
transgender community.
