S

pring was in
the air for Miss
Shirley Hughes, as
she celebrated the

expansion of her specialty
Café and Bakery. On Saturday, March
23, guests were invited with open arms
to the official grand opening of her
second location on 9th Avenue in East
Hill. The Specialty Café and Bakery is
in the perfect place to become a fantastic
neighborhood favorite, featuring
Greenwell Hawaiian, and locally roasted
coffee by Deluna Coffee Company. The
$5 admission to the event guaranteed
customers a heaping plate of barbeque
ribs, chicken wings, a loaded salad bar,
Shirley’s famous homemade chicken
salad, and a variety of Boar’s Head meats

and cheeses.

The unique space

showcases rustic, hand-
made furniture, and
revolving pieces from

local artists decorate the walls. Each
dining area has its own style and charm.
A grab and go espresso bar is available
for a perfectly-made latte, or a fair-
trade, organic tea in the garden lounge.
A community library is also available,
and Shirley encourages guests to bring a
book, and trade as well.

This Specialty Café is also a wonderful

place to host a work meeting in their
private space, or reserve a room for a
party, complete with hot coffee and
assorted pastries to ensure that any
gathering goes on without a snag.
