First City Art Center(FCAC) announces
dates for Creatisphere Summer Art Camp
and Teen Summer Workshops held at 1060 N.
Guillemard St., Pensacola.
Creatisphere Summer Art Camp offers
hands-on classes in pottery, drawing,
sculpture, photography, glass blowing, 3-d
design, mixed media, painting, printmaking,
textiles and more! Creatisphere takes art “out
of the box,” allowing participants to explore
and experiment with unique art forms that
encourage creative development, critical
thinking and innovation. Each week campers
work in the Ceramics and Hot Glass Studios,
and visit the 1060 Art Gallery where they can
observe artists working in their studios. In
addition to art activities, each day includes
a light session of movement, such as Yoga
or outdoor games. Select weeks FCAC will
partner with the Mess Hall.
New this year- Teen Summer Workshops
for age 12-16. This program is specifi cally
designed for teens who have a strong interest
in art. Working in a studio environment teens
gain understanding of complex concepts,
develop problem-solving and risk-taking
skills. Workshops include: Sculpture:
Ceramics and Woodworking, Printmaking
& Photography, Textiles and Mixed Media,
and Stained Glass & Pottery on the Wheel.
This program is great for students who have
graduated Creatisphere Summer Camp or
those new to FCAC. The workshops are open
to all skill levels, no experience required.
Select weeks FCAC will partner with Bare
Hand Collective.

Tony Burton, P.E., Honored With
Baskerville-Donovan Inc.’s (BDI)
Annual Chairman’s Award

(BDI) announced
its selection of
Tony Burton,
P.E., as the 2018
Chairman’s Award
recipient. This
award recognizes
an employee who best embodies the fi rm’s
culture of excellence. Candidates are
nominated by coworkers and then reviewed
by a selection group who chooses one
candidate for fi nal review and approval by
the board of directors. The entire process
is completed under a cloak of secrecy. The
winner is announced at an “all hands”
company meeting, with the winner’s family in
attendance as an added surprise. The recipient
will be acknowledged again later at a special
board luncheon.
Tony Burton, P.E. earned his Civil
Engineering degree from Florida A&M
University and his master’s in Structural
Engineering from the University of Alabama
at Birmingham. He has over 13 years of
experience in his fi eld. In his work and private
life, Tony puts God, family, friends and
community fi rst and foremost.
“We believe our most important asset is our
people. Tony is an outstanding example of the
culture that we are forming as the foundation
of our organization. We congratulate Tony for
winning the Annual Chairman’s Award and
for joining a group of past recipients who are

UWF Receives $39,550 Donation

Festival For Larry Butler Award
The University of West Florida celebrated
a $39,550 donation to the UWF Department
of Music in support of the Larry Butler
Memorial Music Award on Wednesday at
the Museum Plaza in Historic Pensacola. The
new funds are a result of a special concert at
the Flora-Bama and a private concert in the
home of Teri Levin, featuring Don Schlitz,
a Grammy award-winning songwriter and
newly-inducted member of the Country
Music Hall of Fame, as part of the Frank
Brown International Songwriters Festival, in
November 2017.
The donation will help fund student
participation in academic competitions and
performance-related travel experiences,
including the Lancaster International Piano
Festival in Pennsylvania, the Interharmony
International Music Festival in Germany
and Italy, and the UWF Ireland Experience
Program.
The Larry Butler Memorial Music Award
was created in 2015 by Peggy Butler in
memory of her husband, a Grammy Award-
winning songwriter and producer and
Pensacola native. Over $93,000 has been
raised by the Butler family and friends to
support the Department of Music.
Larry Butler worked with renowned
recording artists, such as Johnny Cash and
Kenny Rogers, during his career in Nashville,
and continued to show appreciation for his
hometown through his generosity, including
holding a benefi t concert to raise money for
the rebuilding effort following Hurricane
Ivan.
