A
fabulous celebration was held at the Vineyard at
12th Avenue on March 25, to introduce a very
special Sunday tea dance. Jacob Head and Joe Taylor
hosted the 2nd annual Pensacola “T” Dance. The
event was Easter themed, and guests were encouraged to wear
their most elaborate and spectacular headdresses, bonnets, and
hats to show their creativity. Performers Miss Cie, Jawaketema
Davenport, Nicole Dubois, Glitter, and Jada Heart Mitchell,
took the catwalk to the crowd, interacting with guests and
incorporating them into their dances. The event was a no cover,
$15 drink and drown special, which included mimosas, bloody
Mary’s and house wines. An Easter bonnet contest was held at
4pm, and judges based their winners on the level of applause
from the crowd.
Funds raised from the event went to benefit OASIS Florida.
OASIS Florida is an HIV prevention and care organization
dedicated to helping those who are affected by HIV/AIDS and
preventing the spread through education and awareness.
Historically, tea was served in the afternoon, either being
called “Low Tea” with snacks or “High tea” with a full meal.
High Tea eventually moved earlier in the day, sometimes
replacing the midday luncheon and settled around 11 o’clock,
becoming what we now know as “brunch”. “Going to Tea” was
considered the social event of the week, including a relaxing,
joyful Sunday afternoon with friends and dancing.
