C

ompetition is a good thing, and approximately
forty businessmen came together on April 2 for
that very thing. These amateur chefs prepared
and served individual culinary delights in four

categories of competition: Appetizers, Sides, Mains, and
Desserts. Women were not allowed to assist the chefs in
the competition. The event, Men who Cook, completed its
fi fth year at the Sanders Beach Corrine Jones Community
Center and was organized to benefi t the Pace Center for
Girls. All proceeds from the event support the Pace center’s
operating costs. There were awards for top chef, top chef

team, category winner, and a people’s choice award that was
determined by which chef raked in the most cash tips from
attendees. There was live music, a wine wall, and both silent
and live auctions. Tickets included food, wine and beer. At
the center of the fun was the fi nancial and social support of
the Pace Center for Girls. With 19 nonresidential centers
throughout the state of Florida, PACE provides a safe place
where middle and high school aged girls can grow and thrive.
Volunteers provide leadership and mentoring. Men Who
Cook was a tasty way to support a very important resource in
our state – our future young women.
