A
Worldwide Movement came to Pensacola on March 25 as Mayor
Hayward invited everyone to come out and enjoy Pensacola’s city
streets. Pensacolians could bike, walk, jog, skateboard and join in
various activities at Pensacola’s inaugural Ciclovia Open Streets.
Pensacola joined a long list of progressive cities from Bangalore, India, to Bogota,
Columbia, that have already had an Open Streets event. From Garden Street to
the Palafox Pier and from Gulf Power to the Maritime Park, streets were closed
to motor traffi c and open for safe play of all kinds. Participants enjoyed dancing,
Zumba, were invited to check out the new YMCA, and could tour Pensacola’s
historic buildings.
