T

he Seville Sertoma Club teamed up with Seville Quarter to hold the 21st Great
American Chili Cook- off in Phineas Phogg’s, to benefi t the Five Flags Sertoma
Speech and Hearing Club. On Saturday, January 27, guests gathered to try every type
of chili imaginable, featuring spicy, mild, with or without beans, white, or red.

Teams competed for bragging rights for the best chili in Pensacola. Each concoction was

judged on taste, smell, and consistency and trophies were awarded to the top three winners. Each
guest was given three black beans upon entry to count as their votes. A Showmanship trophy
(decoration and entertainment) was awarded, as well as the coveted People’s Choice trophy.
Several Mardi Gras Krewes competed and decorated their stations to give a preview of their fl oat
theme for the 2018 parades.

Each team had to prepare their chili from scratch at Seville Quarter. Teams arrived at 9am,

started cooking at 12pm, and the judging started at 4pm. The public tasting was from 4 to 6pm
and the cost was $10.00 per person at the door with the proceeds going to the Five Flags Sertoma
Club.

Sertoma’s primary focus is assisting the more than 50 million people with hearing health issues

and educating the public on the issues surrounding hearing health.
