the 2017
Pensacola

Double Bridge Run
on February 4. The
annual 15k run
presented by Publix
started in historic
downtown Pensacola
passing through the historic
district, past the waterfront and then
across two bridges to the finish line at
beautiful Pensacola Beach. There was also
a 5K segment that invited both runners
and walkers to travel from Gulf Breeze to
Pensacola Beach.

First place winners of the 15k were Alex

Ellis and Stephen Schroeder, second place
went to Hollie Sick and Tim Richard and
third place to Kelley Bahn and Rusty
Branch.

The Pensacola Double Bridge Run

presented by Publix was founded in 1998
by a committee of Pensacola area running

and sports enthusiasts
brought together by
the Pensacola Sports
Association to create a
marquee event for the
area. The committee
was charged with
negotiating with the
Santa Rosa Island

Authority of Pensacola Beach
and the cities of Pensacola

and Gulf Breeze to develop a road race
that would join mainland Pensacola to
Pensacola Beach.

This year, there were runners

participating from over 40 states with
almost 5,000 total participants. Many
runners celebrated with friends and
families at post-race parties at Hooters,
Hemingway’s and Bamboo Willies. This
annual race is a one of the signature events
of the Pensacola Sports Association and
because of its size is a considerable boon to
the Pensacola economy.
