O
n February 11, the Pensacola
Senior Follies hosted their
20th annual Young at Heart
performance at the WSRE
Studio, Paul and Amos Theatre. The show
features two acts and an intermission, with
members singing and dancing to classics
such as Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, Right or
Wrong, Walking After Midnight, Coal
Miner’s Daughter, 16 Tons, Turkey in the
Straw, Somewhere Over the Rainbow and
Rock Around the Clock. Follies members also
prepared comedic skits such as a version of
Foster Brooks’ Drunk Pilot (as seen on Jackie
Gleason), Gotta Go Wee and Let it Go, a
gaggle of guys with a little bit of an X-rated
ending.
The Pensacola Senior Follies are a non-
profi t volunteer group. Each member pays
dues to participate and belong to the group.
For this event, there were seven door prizes
donated by Beachside Bingo, Goldmine Bingo
and Buffalo Rock Distributors varying from
$75 to $100 each. Two special Grand prizes
were created and donated by Follies members
themselves.
The Pensacola Senior Follies have quarterly
meet-ups and potluck dinners and start
rehearsing for this annual performance two
to three months ahead of time at the Bayview
Senior Center. The Cloggers and Dancing
Grannies groups are part of the Follies and
travel to various assisted living facilities in
Pensacola for performances throughout the
year.
Each year in September, a funds check
from all the Follies performances is presented
to seven organizations in Pensacola. Those
organizations are the Council of Aging,
Bayview Senior Center, West Escambia Senior
Center, Exchange Park for Senior Games,
Camp Louvers (a Baptist Cancer Camp) and
Senior Scholarships at PSC and ARK.
