Dark wooden flooring flow seamlessly from the kitchen into

the great room, and the large expanse of space easily picks

up Craftsman details that keep a certain sense of consistency,

openness, and relaxed comfort—something that, when Kelly

and Joe began designing their home in 2015, was paramount in

determining every element they chose. “We wanted the house to

have a lot of space and natural light, and it was important to us

that it feel warm and inviting—not only so that we would love

coming home to it, but also so that people who visit us will feel

welcomed by it,” Kelly explains. “Our home makes me want to

relax, and I’ve never been one to relax!”

Suitably perfect for relaxing, the great room features yet

more custom detailing with a beautiful brick fireplace set off

by vintage-inspired moldings that somehow manage to make

the presence of a television screen seem artistic rather than

disruptive. Flanking the fireplace, built-in bookshelves add a

study-like feel to the space without creating stuffiness, while

stacked stone-wrapped wooden vertical beams draw the eye

upward to ceilings that soar high above. “We really wanted

to maintain the Craftsman style so that it wasn’t just on the

exterior, but carried on all throughout the house; and our

architect, Jesse Brodeur, was absolutely thrilled with that,”

notes Kelly, who credits the experts at Campbell Construction

with bringing her dream home to life.

With their busy lives—Kelly’s position as the Director of

Field Placements for Teacher Education and Educational

Leadership at UWF keeps her schedule packed, while Joe

serves as a commercial sales representative for Fitness Master—

it was important for the couple to carve out a niche, to create

their own little fortress and a place for respite that felt in tune

with nature. And that’s just what they found, nestled in the

woodsy surroundings of Nature Trail. “The ‘nature’ aspect was

huge in our decision to move into the neighborhood because

all of that beauty just makes you want to go outside and enjoy

it,” Kelly says. “And we have such an amazing location, with

awesome views of the tree line to watch the sun rise—and on

clear nights when the moon is just-so…it’s magnificent.” With

such magnificence well within view, it’s certainly easy for the

Campbells to feel like royalty, and they’re living in a kingdom

they love.
