Women’s Cross Country Team
To Join PSC Athletics Lineup
Pensacola State College will fi eld a new
sports team this fall.
A women’s cross country team will join the
Pirates Athletics program, Bill Hamilton,
Pensacola State’s athletic director, announced
Wednesday, May 22, during a press
conference in Hartsell Arena.
Hamilton also introduced Julie Burger as
the team’s coach. Burger, an experienced
triathlete, also is director of the College’s
Pharmacy Technician Program on the
Warrington campus.
Recruiting will begin immediately for 10
scholarship positions on the cross country
team, Hamilton said. There also will be fi ve or
six walk-on slots available.
“We plan to start recruiting locally – Dec.
1 was signing day, but we believe there
are still high school athletes out there,”
he said, adding the cross country team
would participate in meets against Florida,
Alabama, Georgia or Mississippi colleges and
universities.
Pensacola State will be the eighth Florida
College System institution to have a women’s
cross country team, Hamilton said. In the
Panhandle Conference, Pensacola State will
join Chipola State College and Tallahassee
Community College. Daytona State College,
Florida Gateway College, Florida State
College-Jacksonville, Pasco-Hernando State

women’s cross country teams.

Game Plan Camp on June 20-22 at
Andrew’s Institute
Fred Robbins, Former NFL Player and
Co-founder of Mr. Robbins’ Neighborhood
(MRN) will host Game Plan Camp on June
20-22 at Andrew’s Institute, Gulf Breeze, FL.
The 3-day camp primarily serves incoming
9th grade students from underfunded schools
and low-income neighborhoods in Escambia
and Santa Rosa County. The camp will focus
on high school success strategies, life skills,
NCAA eligibility requirements and football
fi tness and training. MRN’s mission is to
position their students for success on and
off the fi eld. MRN’s Game Plan Camp will
incorporate several guest speakers including
community leaders and former NFL players.
MRN’s two program initiatives, The
Game Plan Camp (three-day camp) and The
Playbook (nine-month program) play key
roles in developing our students to be better
prepared for entering the workforce and/
or college admission. MRN’s innovative
programs and tools for high school student-
athletes offer college readiness resources,
fi nancial literacy programs, fi tness and
nutrition workshops, career exploration and
workforce development. MRN partners with
professionals, institutions, organizations, and
businesses on a local and national level to help
our students reach their full potential.
The purpose of Mr. Robbins
Neighborhood is to inform student athletes
of the realities of chasing a professional
sports career while arming them with the
knowledge and skills to achieve success in
non-sports arenas. The MRN program is
rooted in the effort to broaden the landscape
of what inspiration, dreams and goals can
look like for the youth of Pensacola. The
organization’s goal is to decrease the number
of young athletes who are not prepared at the
end of a high school, collegiate or professional
career to transition to a new profession
and realize their true potential. Visit www.
mrrobbinsneighborhood.org to learn more.
