T
he days are getting longer, and temperatures are
rising- it is clear that summer is right around the
corner. The summer solstice marks the fi rst day of
summer in the northern hemisphere. It falls each year
on or around June 21, and is the longest day of the year. Nothing
says summer like the great outdoors. This includes being on the
beach, a boat, having a picnic in the park, or relaxing right in your
own back yard. While soaking up that summer sun, having a light,
bright, and refreshing cocktail in your hand is a must.
If you are planning on celebrating this year’s summer solstice
and need a great drink menu, look no further. Here are some ideas
to help you get inspired and channel your inner mixologist. With
the summer heat, a sure way to cool off is with a light cocktail.
Choosing lighter and bright libations, such as champagne, give
you a great base to make your own. Adding fresh fruit and syrups
easily elevate your bubbly drink to a solstice worthy cocktail.
Summer produces some of the most fl avorful and delicious fruits.
Incorporating fresh fruit like berries, watermelon and peaches are
not only complimenting to the season, but also refreshing. Pairing
blueberries or strawberries with mint is so light and refreshing. Try
making sangria with fresh watermelon for a sweet summer twist.
Infusing alcohol with fresh fruit gives you a base to mix up some
wonderful concoctions like a pro.
While celebrating summer solstice, make your party feel like a
“stay”cation with resort inspired cocktails. Mixed frozen drinks
are the perfect way to cool off and get you in the mood for summer.
Frozen cocktails like strawberry daiquiris, margaritas, and piña
coladas can all be made into a delicious mocktail for those who
don’t or can’t have alcohol. However, you choose to welcome
summer, all of these cocktails are the perfect way to toast the
solstice. Enjoy the longest day of the year in the sun with a light
and bright cocktail.
