What is your hometown, what brought you

to the Pensacola area and how long have

you been here?

My hometown is Denver, Colorado. I fi rst moved

here in 1983 to begin my naval career and fl ight

training as a naval aviator. I have lived many

different places since then, however on January

24, 2014, I was delighted to return to Pensacola

and assume command of the Naval Education and

Training Command.

What is your profession and give a brief

description of what you do.

I am a naval aviator and have served in the Navy

for nearly 34 years. My career has included

assignments with Attack Squadron (VA) 72,

Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, Strike Fighter

Squadron (VFA) 22, executive and commanding

offi cer of VFA-137, air operations offi cer for

Carrier Group One, and deputy commander and

commander CVW-5. I served as commander,

Carrier Strike Group 11 onboard the USS Nimitz

from 2012-2013.

What led you to choose this profession?

I wanted to serve my country and I wanted to fl y

jets!

What do you like best about Pensacola?

What makes it so unique?

Pensacola is an amazing combination of pristine

beaches, beautiful water, engaging history,

and dynamic activities from festivals to sports.

However, my wife Marietta and I believe that the

people of Pensacola are the most welcoming and

engaging to military families of any place we have

lived. Their pride and patriotism shines through

and we are honored to keep company with this

terrifi c population. That is what makes Pensacola

unique!

Give us three words that best describe

you.

Optimistic. Loyal. Enthusiastic.

What are some of your favorite things

about Pensacola.

Watching the Blue Wahoos and Ice Flyers win;

Enjoying incredible food all around town (and

walking it off by the water!); and while I’m a little

too old to fl y, I never get tired of seeing the Blue

Angels fl y over their home town!

I AM PENSACOLA because…

I am honored to represent every Sailor, civilian,

and even the parents of those in the military

who live here or have come thru Pensacola...it’s

a privilege to be able to call Pensacola  my home

whether for a few years or forever as it is a very

special place....I started and ended my career here.
