Tell us how you got involved with this

organization?

I am US Navy CPO retired with over 20

years of service. I am a woman veteran who

is driven by a higher power to continue to

walk in those boots. I’ve spent my entire adult

life serving my country and knowing I could

continue that service to a sister in need was an

easy decision to make.

What is the biggest moment that has

stood out in the last year?

The positive and overwhelming response

from the community over the last nine

months has been humbling. This support has

illustrated the willingness of people to remodel,

furnish, and provide financial support for the

“Faith House”, the home that was donated by

an anonymous donor.

Describe The HER Foundation’s

involvement within the community?

As the CEO and founder of HER, churches,

networking groups, and other community

organization have invited us to discuss the

mission and vision to the community. Through

this effort, the community is thinking

about how veteran women contribute to our

country. We are getting people to think that

when you say veteran, not only do you think

man but also think woman.

What are some ways that community

members can contribute, help and get

involved?

“Faith House” has already received, through

community support of churches, businesses,

and private donors, the house, cutting down of

trees, a new roof, security system, landscaping

service, and some furniture. However, other

items still needed include a HVAC system,

windows, flooring, and kitchen cabinets. We

also always need women’s clothing for our

dress for success program and everyday wear.

HER is also in need of partners to help with

daily operational expenses to manage “Faith

House”.

What plans does The HER Foundation

have for the future?

HER plans to continue spreading the word

about the increased needs of our homeless

women veterans. Please note our efforts at

HER for those who are homeless and those

who may become homeless. HER wants to

be the voice for those women veterans lost in

the system when it comes to the Department

Veteran’s Administration.

Does The HER Foundation have any

upcoming events you are involved in?

On August 18, at Sanders Beach, we are

putting on our first “Dining with HER”

gala. Find our event schedule for the later part

of the year on our website www.honorher.

Describe a situation working with the

organization that really stood out and

touched you.

The overwhelming response of a “Call to

Action” to the community when we need

help furnishing and remodeling of the Faith

house that was donated to the foundation. It

is important to remember women veterans

are not asking for a “HANDOUT but a

HANDUP”. Our women veterans have

already served this great country at home and

abroad.  It’s time for the community to come

to the rescue and let women veterans know we

have their back and we support them.
