W

hat a howling good time was had in downtown Pensacola on April 23 at the Old
Hickory Whiskey Bar. Patrons brought their four legged best friends with them
for a fun time and a relaxing drink at Hooch for the Pooch. It may be a little
unusual to see a dog in a bar but it was certainly for a worthy cause. All the fun

was to help raise money for the Pensacola Humane Society. Both canines and humans were excited
to see old friends and make new ones, especially with the dogs. This is the fi fth year that the Old
Hickory Whiskey Bar has held this event.

The Pensacola Humane Society had a table set up out front with information about pet care,

animal adoption, and even had some pets there that were available for adoption. One of the
attendees, Henrick, had been previously adopted from the Humane Society. When most people
think of the Humane Society, they think strictly of pet adoption. The Pensacola Humane Society
actually offers a Pet Therapy program for he community. They also offer a program called
Reading, Writing, and Rover which is a fun school program that teaches responsible pet ownership
to children. This event was a great success and plans are already being made for next year’s event.
