n less than a year, residents on the west
side of Escambia County will no longer
need to travel as far to access emergency
health care. On April 25, ground

was broken for the Perdido Bay ER. It is a
department of West Florida Healthcare and
will be a 24/7 emergency care facility. There
will be separate pediatric and adult areas along
with a dedicated trauma room, diagnostic
imaging, lab services, and a clinical pharmacy.
The facility is anticipated to open in January
of 2018.

Members of the Perdido Key Chamber

of Commerce, West Florida Healthcare,
and the community were present for the
groundbreaking. People mingled before the
program started. During the program, there
were wonderful speeches from members
of the West Florida Healthcare group, the
Perdido Key Chamber of Commerce, and Dr.
Mark Stavros, the Emergency Room Medical
Director. After the program, the shovels of
earth were turned. Light refreshments were
served to fi nish off the ceremony.
