O

n Monday, May 8, Visit Pensacola hosted their second
annual Hospitality Olympic Games at the Blue Wahoos
Stadium. This event kicked off the beginning of National
Tourism and Travel Week. The goal of this event was to

bring the hospitality industry together to play Olympic type games,
have fun, and compete for the Hospitality Cup. Ten teams of fi ve or
more people signed up to participate, with members from museum
historic trusts, hotels, restaurants, and the Visit Pensacola team.

The games featured for the morning’s enjoyment included the

pineapple relay race where individuals had to cross the fi eld with their
pineapple on a broom and try to keep it seated the entire trip. Other
games included the Toilet Paper Toss, Water Wader Dash, Suitcase
Relay, and the Pecan Sack Race. Cat Country’s Brent Lane was to
emcee for the event.

Steve Hays, President of Visit Pensacola said, “The Hospitality games

provide an opportunity for competition in the business world while also
having fun in a game type way.  It’s also to show the rest of Pensacola
that the tourism industry is one big team, and to bring awareness to the
hardworking folks in the industry.”

Visit Pensacola had several events planned to celebrate the week,

including a luncheon in the square and a National Tourism Rally
welcome committee at the Pensacola International Airport. Visit
Pensacola is the destination marketing organization for Pensacola that
provides insight for visitors. Their social channel is for visitors and
locals asking tourism-related questions and for providing news on
upcoming events.
