T

he Escambia County Council of 
Parent and Teacher Association 
(ECCPTA) held their annual 
awards ceremony at Heritage 

Hall in Pensacola on Friday, May 12. The 
attendees included council officers and 
Escambia County School Superintendent 
Malcolm Thomas along with school board 
members Patty Hightower and Kevin 
James, members of individual school 
PTAs and PTSAs (Parent, Teacher, and 
student Associations), as well as County 
Commissioner Jeff Bergosh. This year 
thirty-one chapters raised over $865,000 
and performed over 78,000 community 
service hours. Florida State PTA President 

Cindy Gerhardt was in attendance to bring 
greetings to her Escambia County friends. 
N.B. Cook Elementary School won the 
new “All Children Matter” award for their 
program that supported a different school 
in special ways each month. This year’s 
Outstanding Program of the Year went to 
Primary- Beulah Elementary School and 
Secondary- Jim Bailey Middle School. 
The Communications Excellence Award 
went to Primary- Beulah Elementary 
School and Secondary- Ferry Pass Middle 
School. The Unit of the Year award went 
to Pensacola Beach Elementary School. 
Volunteer of the year went to Primary- 
Amy Diaz for Pleasant Grove Elementary 

School and Secondary- Lisa Foster from 
Ferry Pass Middle School. The Diversity 
& Inclusion award went to McArthur 
Elementary School. Mentor a PTA Award 
went to McArthur Elementary School for 
mentoring West Pensacola Elementary 
School’s new PTA. Outstanding 
Newsletter of the Year went to Cordova 
Park Elementary School, and Outstanding 
Yearbook went to Lipscomb Elementary 
School. Dennis Mills received the Citizen 
of the Year Award. Congratulations to all 
the award recipients!
