O

n May 6, on a beautiful Saturday morning in downtown Pensacola, runners and
walkers helped raise money for brain tumor research by participating in a 5k
run/walk. The proceeds of the fundraiser were to benefi t the 501©(3) nonprofi t
Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure. Running Wild of Pensacola was instrumental in

assisting in the coordination and sponsorship of this event. The start and fi nish were located at
Plaza De Luna Park. The course provided a scenic route for runners and walkers, winding its
way through some of downtown Pensacola’s beautiful vistas. Participants enjoyed views of the
bay along the Bayfront Parkway, Bartram Park, Veterans Memorial Park, Seville Square Park and
Plaza Ferdinand VII Park. Post race treats and refreshments were provided for all participants
as they socialized with each other after the race. With brain tumors being the second leading
cause of death in people under the age of 20, the second leading cause of cancer related death in
males between the ages of 20 and 30, and the fi fth leading cause of cancer related death in women
between the age of 20 and 39, it is paramount that research needs to be properly funded. So a good
cause was helped and participants helped themselves by getting healthy and enjoying camaraderie
in beautiful downtown Pensacola.
