T

he Krewe of Les Harlequins is an all-women’s Mardi
Gras krewe, and is composed of professional women
from Pensacola and surrounding communities. The
Les Harlequins krewe began in 1946, which makes it

one of the longest standing Mardi Gras krewes in Northwest Florida.
On January 12, the Les Harlequins hosted their 72nd annual ball.
Each year the krewe chooses a different theme for the festivities, with
this year’s being “Disney Princesses, Not So Happily Ever After.”
The 2019 King and Queen were announced as Cinderella and Prince

Charming in a skit, along with several other characters including Belle
and the Beast, Ariel and Prince Eric, Malefi cent and Captain Hook.

The Krewe of Les Harlequins has around 130 members, with new

members inducted every year. The Pace Center for Girls is their
charity of choice. The krewe participates in one parade a year, holds
an annual tea, and a meeting that explains the rules and requirements
that come with the membership. Guests and standing members are
requested to come dressed in black and white, in either formal attire,
or in traditional Harlequin clown costumes.
