T

he Greater Little Rock Baptist Church hosted its 5th Annual Pink Tea celebration
on June 16 in support of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. The event
showcased a “Pink Fashion Show” where members of the church walked the runway
displaying their most fashionable items. Live musical entertainment was provided

and light hors d’oeuvres were served, including pink cake. Guests were invited to wear pink,
as well as bring their own teacups to partake in afternoon tea. Dr. Sandra Winborne hosted the
event and Reverend Bruce Hemphill emceed. A raffl e was held with door prizes including a
hand crafted “Quillow,” donated by Blanche Flintroy, which is described as being a quilt that
folds into a pillow.

The Pink Tea celebration allows members, guests, and advocates to help provide and gather

information on breast cancer screenings and early detection, which helps patients get treatment
faster. The best method for early detection is by screening mammography. Women age 40-74
are most at risk and it is recommended to be screened yearly after age 50. Not all breast cancer
can be found by mammography due to development outside the screening range. The American
Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a noncompetitive fundraising walk,
that helps continue to save lives and create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays.
