H

undreds of people, many wearing green garments, gathered March 10 at Pensacola
landmark, McGuire’s Irish Pub, for the 41st annual St. Patrick’s Day Prediction 5K
race.

A prediction race differs from a traditional 5k in that participants “predict”

on their registration form how long they think it will take to fi nish the race. Those participants
closest to their predicted time win the contest.

The certifi ed 5k event, touted as the largest of it’s kind in America, starts at the pub among

much enthusiasm and fanfare. Kilt clad bagpipers set the mood with traditional Irish music.
Once the race begins, racers run or walk their way through the downtown Pensacola area and
eventually cross the fi nish line back at McGuire’s.

After the race, participants enjoyed the after party where there was plenty of traditional Irish

food and beverages.
