G
allery Night in Pensacola is held on the third Friday of every month. The February
Gallery Night was on February 16, and was themed to recognize the Lunar New
Year. From 4pm to 8pm, Palafox and Government Streets downtown were fi lled
with patrons and artists alike, enjoying the food, art, and musical celebration that
Pensacola Gallery Night has come to be known for. UWF students from The Confucius Institute
were in attendance and performed several demonstrations that corresponded to celebrations that
recognize the Lunar New Year.
The Confucius Institute, otherwise known as Hanban, is an organization funded by the
Chinese government to teach Chinese language and culture in college and high school campuses
worldwide. At UWF, the institute is known for its association with the Chinese language
programs and Chinese New Year celebrations.
The mission of Gallery Night Pensacola is to create an engaging cultural event that takes the
“Arts to the Streets” where locals and visitors can connect with the unique Culture of Pensacola.
Through this non-profi t organization, individual artists have the opportunity to showcase
their talent, area arts organizations host public performances and demonstrations, downtown
businesses encourage and enhance the downtown experience, and other community non-profi ts
add to the Gallery Night experience. Musical performances were provided by several artists,
including Three Bean Soup, local to Pensacola and formed in 2006.
