Wiregrass 2-1-1 Local Collaboration Provides Free Income Tax Preparation for

the Dothan Area

Impact Alabama’s SaveFirst Initiative collaborates annually with Wallace Community College, the

Alfred Saliba Center for Families and Wiregrass 2-1-1 to provide free income tax preparation for residents
in the Dothan area and will do so again this year. Last tax season at the Alfred Saliba Center for Families,
student volunteers from Wallace Community College prepared 694 tax returns for working families
in Dothan -- helping them to secure $1.25 million in tax refunds and saving them over $275,000 in
commercial tax preparation fees.

This year, free income tax preparation services are available to working families making up to $54,000/

year with children in the home or $20,000/year without children in the home. Fast electronic filing
and refund direct deposit. The SaveFirst Initiative exists to ensure that working families receive the
full Earned Income Tax Credit and other credits to which they are entitled and to encourage long-term
financial planning and asset-building. For additional information 24/7, residents can dial 2-1-1 or,
call 1-888-99-TAX-AL to schedule an appointment. Daytime, evening and Saturday hours for tax
preparation will be available at the Alfred Saliba Center for Families in Dothan.
