Y
oung up and coming artists at the Youth Village in Fort
Walton Beach had an Art Show and Silent Auction
fundraiser on Saturday, July 28, at the Youth Village located
at 312 Pelham Road. The event, which displayed drawings
and paintings of children who attend the after school program, was
a huge success. It was even more rewarding for kids who learned so
much about art over the summer who were over-joyed to learn that
for every winning bid on their artwork, the artist themselves received
half of the money collected and the other half went towards the Youth
Village Capital Campaign Fund. This generous gesture helped them
to feel even more invested in this place that some of them call their
“second home.” Nellie Bogar, founder and executive director stated,
“Our students know that they are loved and appreciated.” The Youth
Village Capital Campaign Fund is being raised to create additional
programs for the children and to add more space to the facility due to
the growing enrollment numbers and the limited space the children
have to work and play in.
The Youth Village is an after school program and summer camp
which was formed in 1999 to create a safe haven and provide various
educational and recreational services to children in grades K-8. Youth
Village provides a multitude of services including: safe transportation
to the center, homework assistance, access to computers and e-readers,
nutritional snacks, group fi tness and health sessions, educational and
recreational fi eld trips, cultural opportunities via concert attendance,
theater workshops/performances, outdoor play and more.
