T

he Destin Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast, held at LuLu’s in Destin on
October 12, was surely the morning after the storm. Everyone was happy to see
each other, it was great to see their friends doing okay after Hurricane Michael
devastated our neighbors to the East.

At the breakfast meeting, new members were introduced and door prizes were also

awarded to a few lucky winners. On a more serious and solemn note, Okaloosa County
Sheriffs Eric Aden and Charlie Nix gave attendees an update on the current situation in
the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Michael, and also commended the community on being
service oriented and selfl ess. “We know how much you want to go and help your neighbors
but please wait for a little while,” said Sheriff Aden. He tried to let the audience understand
that people fl ocking to help at this point in time was going to make it diffi cult for service
men and those who were on the ground with heavy equipment to work because volunteers
would be in their way. He urged them to wait until debris was removed and a corridor
created to start their humanitarian services.
