T

he journey to becoming Miss Destin 2019 kicked off a week before the 
pageant where each contestant was required to attend three events: the Miss 
Destin’s Soda Party, the Harbor Cruise aboard the Southern Star, and meet 
with the judges for the Miss Destin Judge’s Tea. With six contestants this 

year, three which competed last year as well, it made for a tight-knit group of young ladies  
and some of the board members agreed they’re glad they don’t have to choose this year, 
as each would make a great Miss Destin. The six girls are Makenzie Coe, Khloé Silver, 
Lauren Adams, Danielle Locht, Marlee Tobik and Brooke O’Keefe. After the interviews 
were completed with the judges at the tea, the judges took some time to talk about what 
they look for in the community ambassador for Miss Destin, noting that the young girl 
has to havea special place in her heart for home, whether it’s been for a long or short 
period they’ve lived here, they should be passionate about he environment and growing 
up in it.

Each contestant spoke about what they’re looking forward to most for pageant day, and 

for each event that goes along with becoming Miss Destin. One of the fun events at the 
pageant is the formal walk, in which each girl, including last year’s winner Ellen Brown 
gets to participate. The Dressing Room Boutique opens their doors for the formal gowns 
the girls get to walk the runway in, and Frill Seekers helps with accessories. 

The Judge’s Tea was a beautiful event put on by the board, and a way for the girls 

competing to bring their family members and enjoy the afternoon, while meeting with the 
judges and board members, and receiving some gifts from the local shops and supporters.
