T

he Junior League of the Emerald Coast held their 3rd Annual Touch-
a-Truck event on April 8 at Destin Commons. This family friendly
event allowed children and their parents to see, touch and learn
about a wide variety of vehicles and how they service our community.

Vehicles ranging from a garbage truck, military armored vehicles, construction
trucks and a fi re truck to a medical-mobile helicopter and everything in between
were available for all to experience. The fi rst 250 children got a free treat bag,
between and from 1-2pm kids with special needs and sensitive ears got to
experience and enjoy the event during a horn free hour.

The JLEC is an organization of more than 200 Northwest Florida Panhandle

women of diverse backgrounds who demonstrate a commitment to volunteerism;
throughout the year they organize different events to raise funds for the children
of the community. This year the Touch-a-Truck event raised over $4000 for the
JLEC. For 50 years JLEC continues to bring smiles to the faces of children in our
community through the many services they render.
