With Easter falling later this year, it seems like Memorial Day
came and went in a hurry. Now, we all know that means hot days,
long lines, and lots of traffic in Destin. But who could get by with
complaining about it since we are, after all, in one of the most
sought after locations in the South. I love summertime and all that
goes along with it … from mowing the lawn, waiting at a crowded
restaurant, to cleaning the pool … it is easy to find joy in things
when you are doing them on the Emerald Coast.
From Cinco de Mayo celebrations and Kentucky Derby parties to
the Destin Charity Wine Auction weekend of events, we have had
boundless opportunities to get out and have fun over the last few
weeks. There were galas, festivals, ribbon cuttings, grand openings,
and ground breakings, all of which are proof of a vivacious local
economy and a spirited quality of life. In addition to having fun,
Destinites are some of the most generous people with their time and
resources. Even if the emerald waters and sugar sand beaches were
not so close, this community of people that we have here should
make anyone want to live in it.
This issue recaps just a few of the many social, business, and
philanthropic events that recently took place. We also highlight
some of the ways the area sets its tone in style and fashion, although
you can see that in almost every issue by the way the locals in the
many photos portray their own personal style. From Fort Walton
Beach to communities of South Walton and beyond, there is a very
unique style where folks from all over the country take notice.
I hope that, in this issue, you will learn something new about your community, about your fellow locals, or about
the vast opportunities for service and socializing. And if that is not enough, you will find stories about great places
to eat, drink, and enjoy the summer season.
