n January 10, Walton Area Chamber of Commerce held their fi rst power of Business
Luncheon for 2018. The event took place at Tops’l Beach Racquet Resort in Marimar
Beach. Because January was Mentors Appreciation Month, the event was sponsored
by the organization, Mentoring Emerald Coast. The Director of Mentoring Emerald

Coast Lee Curtis said, “The organization was very excited to honor and thank their mentors who
have made a positive impact on the community.” She urged them to continue their good work and
keep being the leaders they are in the community. She also challenged everyone in attendance who
was not already mentors to look at themselves and think about being a mentor. “Being a mentor is
simply about caring and nothing else,” she said.

The CEO of the Walton area Chamber of Commerce, Megan Harrison, acknowledged and

thanked all investors, sponsors and members of the chamber for making 2017 a great year.
The event’s main speaker, Jim Bagby, spoke on leadership and stressed the importance of great
leadership and the role it plays in the community. He also created an all-inclusive forum for
attendees to chime in by encouraging volunteers to speak up and contribute to his lecture.

A luncheon would not be complete without food, so the chef at the resort prepared a menu of

mixed green salad with Greek dressing and chicken marsala over linguine. For upcoming events
