T

he Boys and Girls Club of the Emerald Coast held their 5th Annual Stake and
Burger Dinner at Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa on November 8. The
keynote speaker this year was one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, Hulk Hogan.
Enjoying a little blast from the past, guests got a fi rsthand narrative from the

Hulkster himself; when he told the stories of his humble beginning in South Tampa, Florida,
and how being sent to the Boys and Girls Club by his father to prevent him from straying as a
youngster helped shape his life for the better. Before his keynote speech, Hogan had an intimate
session with a handful of kids in the VIP room where he talked to them about having a good
character, values, and the consequences of the decisions they make in life, “Because the decisions
we make in our early years sometime carves our future,” Hogan went on to say. Before the night
ended, Hulk threw in an impromptu auctioning session where he auctioned off some signed
bandanas and two replicas of his belts.

With a mission “To enable all young people, especially those that need us most, to reach

their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens,” the Boys & Girls club of the
Emerald Coast currently has more than 1200 children registered during the school year, and
more than 1,300 enjoyed the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast last summer.
