T
he Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center (ECCAC) hosted it’s 20th anniversary Kieran May
Memorial Gala and Golf Weekend: Celebration Evening at the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort and
Spa on March 9. David Seeing emceed whiled guests enjoyed dinner, dessert, and live and silent auctions,
while listening to live entertainment by Mr. Big Band. There were big trips up for grabs in the live
auction to Tuscany, California, Key West, New Orleans, and more. This year the theme was “Honoring Our Heroes”
which recognized those who help the children. The fundraising went directly to benefit children by providing
services to identify, treat, and support child victims. Guests also had a chance to meet a few of the therapy dogs that
have helped provide 1,560 hours spent with the children in need. The Kieran Golf Tournament is part of the weekend
to benefit ECCAC, which happens the day after the Gala, and also includes a brunch.
ECCAC’s prevention program last year alone was able to reach out to 20,000 kids K-8th grade in Walton and
Okaloosa Counties with over 742 children assisted and with education that teaches “empowering children to help
themselves.” Julie Porterfield, Chief Executive Officer, added some inspiring words on stage saying she’s “truly
grateful for 20 years to do truly what is God’s work.” An inspiring evening to see just what a community that comes
together can do.
