O
n the sunny Wednesday of September 12, Scenic Hills Country Club hosted
the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra Guild’s Annual Luncheon meeting. This
meeting was the offi cial kickoff of the 2018-2019 orchestra season. Maestro and
Musical Director Peter Rubardt was in attendance to highlight upcoming guest
soloists to the program, as well as play short sound clips from the upcoming performances.
Announcements were made for the upcoming Silent Auction event at Skopelos on November 7,
and Magnolias and White Linen event on March 6, which will feature guest speaker Roy Blount
Jr., world renowned writer for “Garden and Gun”. October 13 is the offi cial opening night of the
Pensacola Symphony Orchestra, held at the Saenger Theatre on Palafox Place downtown.
Guild members have contributed their time, talent and leadership to the Symphony since
1973. Its services to the orchestra include increasing knowledge and appreciation of music
throughout the community, promoting season memberships for Orchestra performances,
and providing fi nancial support for the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra. The Guild extends
hospitality to guest artists and Orchestra members, sponsors receptions, and when requested,
members volunteer in the Symphony offi ce. Music appreciation for the elementary school
youth of our community is encouraged through the Guild’s committee, Music in Education.
Another committee, Belles and Beaux, works to involve high school teens in Symphony-focused
activities.
